The blind wander in the night – Joseph Brodsky

The blind wander in the night.
Much easier at night.
Go across the square.
The blind live by touch.
To the touch,
Touching the world with your hands,
Knowing no light and shadow
And feeling the stones:
Walls are made of stone.
Men live behind them.
Women.
Children.
Money.
therefore
Indestructible
Better get around the walls.
And the music will rest against them
Music will be swallowed by stones.
And the music will die in them,
Gripped by hands.
It's bad to die at night.
It's bad to die by touch.
So it's easier for the blind.
The blind man walks through the square.
